Democrat Commissioners continue reckless spending and tax increases
Democrats voted to raise your taxes $140 million and $116 million during their terms

Bergen County, NJ—The Bergen Republican County Commissioner candidates, Jay Costa, John Dinice and Andrea Slowikowski, issued their first social media advertisement this week, slamming the incumbent Democrats for their reckless spending and tax increases.
The ad points out that the Democrat Commissioners seeking reelection this year are gleefully endorsed by the biggest spending governor in New Jersey history, Phil Murphy, and the biggest spending county executive in history, James Tedesco.
The GOP says the endorsements are predicable because the incumbent Democrats Tom Sullivan, Mary Amoroso and Germaine Ortiz, are the biggest spending county commissioners in Bergen County history.
Costa, a River Vale businessman, says the county commissioner spending, like that of Gov. Murphy, has been out of control and that big tax hikes are coming in the next couple of years unless cuts can be made to county spending.
“The Democrats drove the county budget up to three quarters of a billion dollars and then applied federal covid money this year to cover their spending and to temporarily avoid a massive tax hike,” says Costa. “That federal money is all used up, so the Democrats will have no choice but to raise taxes next year – because we know they cannot cut spending.”
Dinice, a member of the Mahwah Board of Education, pointed out that while Sullivan has been a commissioner, he voted to raise taxes by nearly $140 million and that Amoroso and Ortiz approved tax increases of $116 million during their time as county commissioners.
“The thought of actually cutting unnecessary spending seems to be a foreign concept to the Bergen Democrat Commissioners,” said Dinice. “We realize how much taxpayers are suffering and we will do all we can to ease their tax burden.”
Slowikowski, a Demarest councilwoman, noted that the only thing that commissioners Sullivan, Amoroso and Ortiz talk about is spending taxpayers’ money on one project or another. “The Democrats are trying to buy votes with the taxpayers’ money. It is time to end the county’s spending spiral,” said Slowikowski.
The Republicans say if elected on November 4, they will force the county to focus on its core mission; end extravagant spending, and inform residents on how the county is spending money before the commissioners spend it.
